The “Centre for Detector and Related Software Technology”, from its inception on 27-Jan-1989, has been contributing significantly in the field of Experimental High Energy Physics.
The Centre has been actively involved in the cutting edge research in High Energy Physics through following activities:International collaborations on High Energy Physics Experiments, like Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at the LHC, CERN, Switzerland and D0 at Fermilab, USA.
Extra Mural Research Grants for facilitating research through the faculty members involved with the Centre, both through Mega Projects and International Bilateral Projects.
Collaborate with Institutes of National Importance, like TIFR, BARC SINP, IISc, IIT-Madras, Panjab University, etc. on various high energy physics projects.
Establish and support facilities for detector design, fabrication, characterization, and associated electronics.
Participation in the advanced detectors R&D for challenging requirements of the future Nuclear, Particle, Astrophysics and Medical fields.
Develop human resources, by providing facilities to the PhD research scholars, MSc and BSc dissertation students, Internships from various other universities and hiring JRF/SRF/RA etc. in Research projects.
Organize conferences of national and international importance.

Some major achievements of the Centre includes:
Participation of the faculty members in the Higgs boson discovery in 2012, which resulted in the Nobel Prize for Physics to Peter Higgs and Englert Francois in 2013.
It successfully collaborated with BARC and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to deliver more than 1000 good-quality state-of-the-art silicon sensors to the CMS Experiment, between 2002-2006.
There are more than 900 publications in peer-reviewed Journals. One of the paper on Higgs boson is published in Science (Science 21 Dec 2012: Vol. 338, Issue 6114, pp. 1569-1575; DOI: 10.1126/science.1230816), and another paper on Higgs boson (Physics Letters B, Volume 716, Issue 1, 17 September 2012, Pages 30–61) has more than 4000 citations, as per Scopus.
About 26 Ph.D.s, already awarded under the Directors of this Centre. Further, More than 15 others are already availing the facilities of the Centre for their Ph.D. work.
Research Grants, to the tune of more than Rs 17 crore, till date.
Participation in data analysis of the CMS and D0 experiments, through the computing facility. Further, it has a high-bandwidth network together with a computing cluster for accessing the data generated at the LHC.
