| प्रो. अता-उर-रहमान, सूचना-तकनीक और नवीनीकरण : सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकास की अनिवार्यता
(Prof. Attar-Ur-Rahman, "Science Technology and Innovation: Imperatives for Socio-Economic Development") दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की लोकप्रिय व्याख्यानमाला का पहला अकादमिक व्याख्यान पाकिस्तान के केंद्रीय विज्ञान मंत्री प्रो. अता-उर-रहमान जी द्वारा 4 अगस्त 2012 को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के सम्मेलन केंद्र में दिया गया। व्याख्यान का विषय “सूचना-तकनीक और नवीनीकरण : सामाजिक-आर्थिक विकास की अनिवार्यता” था। इस अवसर पर दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह, उपकुलपति प्रो. विवेक सुनेजा सहित कुलसचिव, प्रॉक्टर, डीन अकादमिक व छात्र भी मौजूद रहे।
व्याख्यान से पहले कुलपति महोदय ने श्रोताओं को व्याख्याता प्रो. अता-उर-रहमान से जुड़ी कुछ खास बातें भी बताई। प्रो. रहमान और दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय का संबंध काफी पुराना है। उनके दादा सर अब्दुर रहमान दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के पूर्व कुलपति रह चुके हैं, तो उनके पिता ने सेंट स्टीफन कॉलेज से पढ़ाई की और जन्म से वे दिल्लीवाले हैं।
वैज्ञानिक प्रो. रहमान के नाम 857 प्रकाशन और 20 से अधिक पेटेंट दर्ज हैं। उनके प्रयोगों का एक बड़ा हिस्सा मानव कल्याण को समर्पित रहा है। अपने व्याख्यान में उन्होंने कुछ अनूठे किस्म की खोजों का जिक्र किया। मसलन स्टेम सेल के से शरीर में नए अंगों को विकसित करना, बढ़ती हुई उम्र को रोकने का उपाय, बुलेटप्रूफ कागज, विकलांग व्यक्तियों के लिए उनके द्वारा चलाई जा सकने वाली व्हीलचेयर, जुगनू की तरह चमक सकने वाले ऑर्किड और कई दुर्लभ प्रयोगों का ज़िक्र उन्होंने अपने व्याख्यान में किया।
भारत-पाकिस्तान के राजनीतिक संबंधों से इतर यह व्याख्यान शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में दोनों देशों के बीच पारस्परिक सहयोग के लिए एक सकारात्मक पहल था। व्याख्यान के प्रारंभ में प्रो. रहमान ने कहा भी कि पहले वे वैज्ञानिक हैं। वे विज्ञान और तकनीकी शिक्षण के क्षेत्र में भारत की आवश्यकता को समझते हैं। साथ ही शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में विभिन्न देशों की प्रगति पर बात करते हुए भारत-पाकिस्तान को सफलता के लिए साथ यात्रा तय करने की बात भी दोहराई।
विकासशील से विकसित देश बनने की आकांक्षा दोनों देशों को आपसी सहयोग की राह सुझाती है। वास्तविकता तो यह है की भूमंडलीकरण के दौर में कोई भी देश अकेले प्रगति नहीं कर सकता, दूसरे की सहायता आवश्यकता बन चुकी है। किसी देश को अपना माल खपाने के लिए दूसरा देश अच्छा बाजार नज़र आता है तो अन्य को उससे होने वाले विदेशी व्यापार का फायदा लुभाता है।
प्रो. दिनेश सिंह जी और प्रो. रहमान दोनों ही शिक्षण के क्षेत्र में नवीनतम पद्धतियों के प्रयोग को बढ़ावा देने के समर्थक हैं ताकि युवाओं को उन्नति के बेहतर अवसर उपलब्ध करवाएँ जा सकें। युवाओं को जरुरत है काम की और बाजार की जरुरत है कुशल कामगार; जिसके लिए शिक्षा के उच्च मापदंडों को स्थापित करना अनिवार्यता बन चुका है। प्रो. रहमान ने कहा भी कि हर देश में युवाओं को काम मिले इसकी गारंटी हमारी शिक्षा व्यवस्था में होनी चाहिए।
व्याख्यान में उपस्थित जिज्ञासु श्रोताओं ने प्रो. अता-उर-रहमान जी से कई ज्ञानवर्धक व दिलचस्प सवाल पूछे। युवाओं को अपना उत्साह बरकरार रखने और उनके सफल भविष्य की शुभकामनाओं के साथ प्रो. रहमान ने अपने व्याख्यान का समापन किया। |

| 2 मई 2012 को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय का स्थापना दिवस मनाया गया दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की स्थापना वर्ष 1922 को हुई थी, इस साल 2 मई को स्थापना दिवस बहुत ही सादगी और सुंदरता के साथ मनाया गया। इस महत्वपूर्ण अवसर पर विश्वविद्यालय के मुख्य अतिथि परम आदरणीय राज्यसभा सांसद डा. कर्ण सिंह जी थे। वहीं दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति महोदय प्रो. दिनेश सिंह, उप कुलपति प्रो. विवेक सुनेजा समेत, दक्षिणी परिसर के निदेशक, कुलसचिव, प्रॉक्टर, सभी संकायों के डीन्स, समस्त विभागाध्यक्ष, कॉलेजों के प्राचार्य, विश्वविद्यालय कार्यकारिणी समिति के सदस्य मौजूद रहे।
कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ आदरणीय डा. कर्ण सिंह जी के द्वारा दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के ध्वज को फहराकर किया गया। नीले रंग के ध्वज पर दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय का चिह्न और उस पर अंकित सूत्र वाक्य 'निष्ठाः धृति सत्यम्' बहुत ही सुंदर दिखाई दे रहा था। तत्पश्चात् पारंपरिक रूप से मुख्य अतिथि डा. कर्ण सिंह जी ने दीप प्रज्वलन भी किया। दीप प्रज्वलन के साथ ही गायकों ने अभिनंदन गीत गाकर संपूर्ण वातावरण में रस भर दिया।
मुख्य अतिथि का स्वागत करते हुए कुलपति महोदय प्रो. दिनेश सिंह जी ने कहा, "डा. कर्ण सिंह जी जैसी महान शख्सियत तो एक हस्ताक्षर हैं, जिनका व्यक्तित्व ही उनका परिचय देता है। डा. कर्ण सिंह जी और दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय का संबंध बेहद अटूट है। जम्मू कश्मीर के राजा हरिसिंह के पुत्र होने के साथ-साथ डा. कर्ण सिंह जी दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के भी भूतपूर्व छात्र भी रह चुके हैं। उनके राजनीतिज्ञ रूप से तो हम भली-भाँति परिचित हैं ही, इसके साथ ही वे एक महान लेखक भी हैं।"
मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में डा. कर्ण सिंह जी को सुनने के विचार ने ही सभागार में उपस्थित गण्यमान्य सदस्यों की रूचि को बढ़ा दिया था। डा. कर्ण सिंह ने आज की शिक्षा के व्यापारीकरण और भौतिकीकरण की ओर इशारा करते हुए ज्ञानार्जन के अंतर्मुखी संदर्भों को सपष्ट किया। उनके अनुसार विद्यार्थी ज्ञान प्राप्ति के लिए हमेशा जिज्ञासु रहता है। ज्ञान को स्वयं तक सीमित न रखकर उसका प्रसार समाज के हित हेतु करता है। इससे जो सुख की प्राप्ति होती है वह ज्ञान प्राप्ति के लिए हमेशा ही लालायित रखती है।
मुख्य अतिथि ने भी सदस्य जनों को संबोधित करते हुए, 'शिक्षा और जीवन मूल्यों की महत्ता' पर अपने विचार प्रकट किए। सबसे पहले उन्होंने मनुष्य जीवन से अदृश्य होते मूल्यों की स्थिति को समझाया। इसके बाद उन्होंने हमारे जीवन में इन चार प्रकार के योगों को अपनाने पर बल दिया: - ज्ञानयोग
- कर्मयोग
- धर्मयोग
- और सहयोग
ये चार प्रकार के योग मानव जीवन को जीने में सहयोग करता है। पहला योग है ज्ञानयोग, जो मनुष्य के जीवन में ज्ञान की प्राप्ति को उसका प्रथम लक्ष्य बताता है। कर्मयोग हमें कर्म करने की प्रेरणा देता है तो धर्मयोग जीवन में धर्म यानी सत्य, अहिंसा और नैतिकता के मार्ग को हमारा लक्ष्य बताता है। वहीं सहयोग हमें मानव समाज में रहते हुए परस्पर प्रेम-सौहार्द और सहिष्णुता के साथ जीवन जीने की बात को समझाता है। डा. कर्ण सिंह का मानना है मनुष्य को अपनी चेतना से काम, क्रोध, मोह, लोभ आदि तत्वों पर विजय पाने का प्रयत्न करना चाहिए।
परम श्रद्धेय डा. कर्ण सिंह जी का मानना है कि इन चार योगों के अतिरिक्त आज नवीन पीढ़ी को प्राचीन भारतीय मूल्यों की जानकारी देने की पर्याप्त आवश्यकता है क्योंकि बहुसंख्यक इनसे अनभिज्ञ हैं तथा मनुष्य के सरल विचार और उच्च कोटि के जीवन के लिए आवश्यक तत्व हैं।
ये सभी मूल्य हमारे जीवन स्तर को ऊँचा उठाने के अलावा हमें विपरीत परिस्थितियों के लिए भी सक्षम बनाते हैं। मुख्य अतिथि ने कठोपनिषद के एक श्लोक से अपनी बात को पुष्ट करते हुए कहा कि हमें उठना है, जागना है और तलवार की धार पर चलना है। सत्य है कि यह मार्ग आसान नहीं है, पर उसी से हमें लक्ष्य प्राप्त होगा।
मुख्य अतिथि के पावन वचनों के बाद उप-कुलपति प्रो. विवेक सुनेजा जी ने धन्यवाद ज्ञापन करते हुए भारतीय संस्कृति के उन मूल्यों की पुनः चर्चा की, जिनका महत्व डा. कर्ण सिंह जी ने बताया था। कार्यक्रम का समापन राष्ट्रीय गान के साथ किया गया। |
| डा.एस.वाई.कुरैशी 'पुरानी दिल्ली के पहलू' व्याख्यान, 25 अप्रैल 2012 डा.एस.वाई.कुरैशी भारत के मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त होने के साथ-साथ प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार भी हैं। पुरानी यादों को संजोकर ही हम आगे बढ़ पाते हैं। जैसे दिल्ली के सौ बरस बीतने के बाद भी हम इतिहास के उन पन्नों को उलटते रहे जब दिल्ली लुटियन की दिल्ली थी, पुराने और नए की संस्कृतियों के बीच गहरे से जुड़ी हुई थी और यमुना का बहाव थमा नहीं था। आज गगनचुंबी इमारतों की योजनाओं और मेट्रो रेल की चाल से चाल मिलाती दिल्ली को किसी न किसी बहाने अपने सबसे अज़ीज हिस्से पुरानी दिल्ली की यादें ही उत्साह के साथ आगे बढ़ने का साहस देती है। 'कुछ बात है कि हस्ती मिटती नहीं हमारी'- इकबाल का यह शेर दिल्ली पर बिल्कुल सटीक बैठता है। वक्त तो वो था, जब दीवार के बाहर ज़हालत और तहज़ीब पुरानी दिल्ली में बसा करती थी। पुरानी दिल्ली आज भी अपने उसी रंग-रुप के साथ बरकरार है। चाहे वह मीर तकी मीर की उर्दू को महान बनाने की बात हो, इब्राहिम ज़ौक की ग़ज़ल और मिर्जा ग़ालिब की शायरी को लोकप्रिय बनाना रहा हो या फिर अपने चटपटे ज़ायकों के लिए मशहूर दिल्ली हो। दिल्ली एक शहर भर नहीं है। यह मौका था, पुरानी दिल्ली की यादों को ताजा करने का। 'पुरानी दिल्ली के पहलू' विषय पर व्याख्यान देने आए मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त डा. शहाबुद्दीन याकूब कुरैशी जी। दिल्ली शहर के प्रति अपने इसी प्यार व अपनापन को भारत के मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त डा. एस.वाई.कुरैशी जी ने 25 अप्रैल की शाम अपने व्याख्यान में बताने की कोशिश की। उन्होंने अपने द्वारा लिखी पुस्तक 'ओल्ड देल्ही लिविंग ट्रेडिशंस' भी माननीय कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह को भेंट की। डा. कुरैशी सामाजिक सरोकारों से जुड़े रहने वाली शख्सियत हैं। उनका रुझान ऐतिहासिक विषयों में भी रहा है। यही वजह थी कि जब उन्होंने अपने व्याख्यान को शुरू किया तो वहाँ बैठे लोग अपना ध्यान हटा न सके। यह अनुभव चित्रात्मक कथा को पेश करने जैसा था। डा. एस.वाई.कुरैशी जी ने जो पहला वाक्य कहा वह काफी महत्वपूर्ण था कि 'मैं पाँच सौ साल का दिल्लीवाला हूँ'। दरअसल दिल्ली 7 दरवाजों और उनकी दीवारों के बीच बसा सामासिक संस्कृति का केंद्र था तब जमुना पार एक तरह से तिरस्कार भरा शब्द हुआ करता था, पर आज दिल्ली के विस्तार से इसका रुप परिवर्तित हो चुका है। कितने ही आक्रमणकारी दिल्ली आए और यहीं बस गए। किसी ने भी दिल्ली से आगे बढ़ने की जरुरत नहीं समझी। दिल्ली के आबाद होने की कहानी जिन ऐतिहासिक तथ्यों को उजागर करती है उन्हें माननीय कुरैशी जी ने अपने पारिवारिक और सामुदायिक स्तर पर चित्रात्मक रुप में पेश किया। दिल्ली में विभिन्न संस्कृतियों और सभ्यताओं के लोगों के बसने से समाज में न तो कोई एक धर्म रहा और न ही कोई एक सभ्यता बल्कि सामासिक संस्कृति जन्मी। इस संस्कृति ने हमें आपस में जुड़ना सिखाया। यही समरसता और एकता दिल्ली के चाँदनी चौक इलाके में भी दिखाई देती है। एक साथ पाँच धर्मों के तीर्थ स्थान- जैन मंदिर, गौरी शंकर मंदिर, शीशगंज गुरुद्वारा, मोती मस्जिद और सेंट्रल बैपटिस्ट चर्च मौजूद है। खास बात है कि सभी एक कतार में हैं। चाँदनी चौक की निर्माण-योजना मुगल बादशाह औरंगजेब की बेटी जहाँआरा ने तैयार की थी। यह सुदृढ़ नगर योजना का ही परिणाम था कि एक किलोमीटर के दायरे के भीतर ही सभी तरह की सुविधाओं को जोड़ते हुए एक राजधानी का निर्माण किया गया। पुरानी दिल्ली के व्यवसायों के बारे में उल्लेख करते हुए, कुरैशी जी ने बताया कि यहाँ हर गली, हर कूचे का नाम किसी खास व्यवसाय से जुड़ा हुआ है। मसलन चूड़ियों के लिए चूड़ीवालां, जूतियों के लिए बल्लीमारान, निमंत्रण पत्रों के लिए चावड़ी बाजार, किताबों-कापियों और अन्य स्टेशनरी के सामान के लिए दरियागंज, आभूषणों की खरीददारी के लिए दरीबां कलां और मसालों के लिए खारी बाउली का बाजार आदि। पुरानी दिल्ली की एक और खासियत है कि यह आपको ऐसे-ऐसे लजीज पकवान परोसती है, जो आपको कहीं और इतने सस्ते व अच्छे नहीं मिल सकते। यहाँ कि गली कबाबियाँ का कबाब (आज आप इसी को मशहूर करीम कबाब के नाम से जानते हैं।), पराँठें वाली गली के प्रसिद्ध पराँठें, रुमाली रोटी, नहारी, बिरयानी और मीठे में फिरनी व सेवईयों को खाना बहुत ही मजेदार अनुभव है। उस वक्त काँटे-छुरी से खाना असभ्य और हाथ से खाना सभ्यता की निशानी माना जाता था। खाने के अलावा यहाँ लोगों के बीच में कई तरह के खेल भी लोकप्रिय थे। ज्यादातर लोग कुश्ती, कबड्डी, तैराकी,चौसर खेलने के साथ-साथ तीतर, बटेर और मुर्गों की लड़ाईयाँ देखना पसंद करते थे। साथ ही कबूतर की अलग-अलग किस्मों को बाकायदा प्रशिक्षण देकर उनका मुकाबला करवाया जाता था। एक मिसरे के जरिए कुरैशी जी ने कबूतरबाजी के बारे में बताते हुए कहा कि 'पिजड़िया पाले पिलपिले, और आशिक पाले लाल, कबूतर पाले चोट्टे, जो तके पराया माल'। भले ही आज कबूतरबाजी के मुकाबलों में वह रौनक नजर नहीं आती है, मगर इसका शौक आज भी बरकरार है। पुरानी दिल्ली ने एक नई टकसाली जुबान को भी पैदा किया, जिसे आज हम उर्दू के नाम से जानते हैं। यही उर्दू बाद में नफासत,तहज़ीब और अदब की ज़ुबान बन गई। लोगों के घरों में बाकायदा उर्दू सीखी गई, ताकि वे समाज में अपना रुतबा कायम कर सकें। दिल्ली कला और संस्कृति को बढ़ावा देने के लिहाज से हमेशा ही संपन्न रही। हिंदी-उर्दू के सम्मिश्रण से पनपे कवियों, शायरों ने भारतीय साहित्य के नवीन आयामों को बेहद कुशलता के साथ उभारा। मीर, ज़ौक, नज़ीर, गालिब की शायरी की छाप आज तक यहाँ दिखाई देती है। हम कह सकते हैं कि उस वक्त हर एक व्यक्ति शायर हुआ करता था। अमीर खुसरो की खड़ी हिंदी में लिखी साँखियों, मुकरियों के साथ शायरी, नज्मों के पनपने का दौर बराबर चल रहा था। कुरैशी जी ने अपने व्याख्यान के बाद श्रोताओं की बहुत सी जिज्ञासाओं का भी समाधान किया। एक श्रोता के सवाल कि दिल्ली अपने संपूर्ण अर्थों में दिल्ली क्यों नहीं जानी जाती, नई या पुरानी का भेद क्यों है? इस पर कुरैशी जी का कहना था कि दिल्ली अपने सभी स्वरुपों में सिर्फ दिल्ली ही है। नई दिल्ली और पुरानी दिल्ली के बीच का भेद बहुत गैर जरूरी सी बात है क्योंकि यहाँ तहज़ीब और गंगा-जमुनी संस्कृति हमेशा से एक है। कुरैशी जी ने अपने व्याख्यान का समापन करते हुए कहा, "दिल्ली दरवाजों-दीवारों का शहर नहीं है बल्कि यह तो चाहने वालों के दिलों में बसता है।" कार्यक्रम के अंत में कुलपति महोदय ने डा.एस.वाई.कुरैशी जी का धन्यवाद ज्ञापन करते हुए मुख्य अतिथि सहित सभी अतिथियों को रात्रिभोज के लिए आमंत्रित किया। |

| सोनल मानसिंह द्वारा टैगोर "नायिका" की प्रस्तुति, 24 अप्रैल 2012 दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में प्रसिद्ध नृत्यांगना डा. सोनल मानसिंह जी ने गुरुदेव रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर के गीतों से सजी नृत्यात्मक प्रस्तुति ‘नायिका’ को प्रदर्शित किया। कार्यक्रम ‘नायिका’ गुरुदेव रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर के 150वें जन्मदिवस के उपलक्ष्य में 24 अप्रैल 2012 की शाम को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के वाइस रीगल लॉज में प्रस्तुत किया गया। इस अवसर पर दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति प्रो.दिनेश सिंह, उप-कुलपति प्रो.विवेक सुनेजा, दक्षिणी परिसर के निदेशक, कुलसचिव, प्रॉक्टर, सभी संकायों के डीन्स, समस्त विभागाध्यक्ष और शिक्षकगण मौजूद रहे। डा. सोनल मानसिंह जी भारतीय नृत्य का वह अमूल्य रत्न हैं, जिनसे कला जगत की शोभा बरकरार है। उम्र के इस पड़ाव पर भी 'नायिका' जैसी प्रस्तुतियाँ देकर सोनल जी ने यह सिद्ध कर दिया कि कला और कलाकार कभी भी थककर रुकते नहीं अपितु उनकी यात्रा जीवन भर जारी रहती है। प्रसिद्ध नृत्यांगना और नृत्य निर्देशिका सोनल जी पद्मविभूषण से सम्मानित पहली भारतीय महिला हैं। देश-विदेश में ख्याति अर्जित करने वाली सोनल जी ने नृत्य के क्षेत्र में बहुत से नवीन प्रयोग भी किए हैं। नृत्य में कथा के सुंदर मेल से बनी प्रस्तुतियाँ देकर वे दर्शकों को मंत्रमुग्ध कर देती हैं। 'नायिका' कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय सांस्कृतिक समिति की सचिव डा.सुचित्रा गुप्ता ने मंच पर सभी कलाकारों को आमंत्रित कर किया। कलाकारों ने भी विधिवत रूप से शंख ध्वनि कर कार्यक्रम को शुरू किया। मंच पर सोनल जी के मनमोहक नृत्य के संग संगति करते बाँसुरी, मृदंग, मंजीरे व सुंदर प्रकाश योजना के अनुपम सम्मिलन से पूरे सभागार का वातावरण कलामय हो गया। डा.सोनल मानसिंह जी स्वयं गुरुदेव रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर की बहुत बड़ी प्रशंसिका है। इस कार्यक्रम में उन्होंने गुरुदेव के गीतों के साथ भरत मुनि के नाट्यशास्त्र में बताए गए अष्टनायिका भेद की बेहद खूबसूरत ढंग से व्याख्या की। नायिका बनीं सोनल जी के मनमो गुरुदेव के अनेक गीतों में से कुछ को विशेष रूप से चयनित कर इस भावपूर्ण प्रस्तुति तैयार की गई। इस प्रस्तुति की खासियत कथा पक्ष ही नहीं अपितु संगीत पक्ष भी रहा। बांग्ला भाषा में गुरुदेव के लिखे मधुर गीतों को नृत्य प्रस्तुति के साथ लयबद्ध करके अलग-अलग भावों को दर्शाया गया। कथा में नायक और नायिका के चरित्र के अलावा एक महत्वपूर्ण चरित्र सखी का भी है। सखी वह मनुष्य है जो नायिका की प्रेम-पीड़ा को समझती है और नायक से बिना किसी पूर्व परिचय के भी नायिका का दुख वर्णित करती है। नायिका के रूप में सोनल जी ने हर रूप के साथ पूर्ण न्याय किया। कुछ विशेष भावों ने तो दर्शकों के हृदय में अपनी गहरी छाप छोड़ी। खासतौर से खंडिता नायिका का नायक से कठोर वचन कहना और स्वाधीनपतिका के रूप में नायिका को आत्मबोध होना। इन दोनों ही भावों में उन्होंने दर्शकों पर विशेष प्रभाव छोड़ा। कार्यक्रम के सार के बारे में सोनल जी से पूछा गया तो उनका कहना था, "यह नृत्य प्रस्तुति केवल नायक-नायिका के परस्पर प्रेम और विरह की कथा मात्र नहीं है बल्कि इसका अर्थ बहुत विशाल है। यह आत्मा और परमात्मा के परस्पर मिलन की कथा है। वास्तव में जब मनुष्य ईश्वर से हर रूप में जुड़ जाता है, तभी वह परमात्मा के साथ एकाकार हो पाता है। प्रेम के इस भाव के लिए कहा भी गया है कि प्रेम गली अति सांकरी या मे दो न समाये।" यानी प्रेम की गली इतनी छोटी और संकरी है कि वहाँ व्यक्ति अपने अहंकार को लेकर परमात्मा के साथ नहीं रह सकता इसलिए दोनों को एक-दूसरे में मिलना ही पड़ता है। |

| एनसीसी कैडेटों से एडमिरल निर्मल वर्मा की मुलाकात, 27 मार्च 2012 एनसीसी यानी कि नेशनल कैडेट कॉर्पस देश के नौजवानों को दिए जाने वाले सैन्य प्रशिक्षण और देशभक्ति की सीख की एक बानगी भर नहीं है। बल्कि इसका काम इससे कहीं बढ़कर है। नौजवानों में नेतृत्व क्षमता, देशप्रेम और साहस को भरना ही इसका लक्ष्य है। 1948 में हुए एनसीसी की स्थापना एक महत्वपूर्ण शिक्षण का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा रहा है। शिक्षण संस्थानों में व्यक्तित्व विकास के लिहाज से एनसीसी को बहुत महत्व दिया जाता है। दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में भी 27 मार्च 2012 को एनसीसी की महत्ता को उजागर करते हुए एक विशेष परेड और सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किया गया। इस कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि परम विशिष्ट और अति विशिष्ट सेवा पदक से सम्मानित नौसेना प्रमुख एडमिरल निर्मल कुमार वर्मा थे। विश्वविद्यालय के इतिहास में पहली बार नौसेना प्रमुख ने छात्रों की परेड की सलामी लेकर कार्यक्रम का आगाज़ किया। वहीं छात्रों ने भी इस परेड को पूरी उत्साह व सैन्य अनुशासन के साथ प्रस्तुत किया। कार्यक्रम में 25 विभिन्न कॉलेजों के एनसीसी के सदस्य छात्रों और शिक्षकों ने भाग लिया। इस मौके पर कुलपति महोदय प्रो. दिनेश सिंह ने 1857 की क्रांति के समय दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के ऐतिहासिक महत्व को रेखांकित किया। कुलपति महोदय ने पूर्वजों की कुर्बानी को याद कर युवा पीढ़ी को उसका कर्तव्य समझाया। नौसेना प्रमुख एडमिरल निर्मल वर्मा ने एनसीसी के महत्व पर जोर देकर नौजवानों के भीतर नेतृत्व क्षमता को उभारने की बात कही। उन्होंने भारतीय सेना में एनसीसी के योगदान की भी सराहना की। एनसीसी के कैडेट्स ने रंगारंग कार्यक्रम भी प्रस्तुत किया। कार्यक्रम में विभिन्न प्रकार के योगाभ्यास से स्वयं को स्वस्थ रखने के तरीके बताए गए। 'धूम्रपान निषेध' पर केंद्रित नाटक और आपदा प्रबंधन व प्राथमिक सहायता की तकनीक की झलकियाँ भी प्रस्तुत की गईं। एडमिरल निर्मल वर्मा जी और कुलपति द्वारा दिए गए प्रेरणादायी भाषण ने छात्रों को आत्म-नियंत्रण की महत्ता, देश के प्रति उनके कर्तव्यों और अखंडता की याद दिलाई। इसी समय दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय ने अलकाज़ी फांउडेशन के सहयोग से "1857 विद्रोह" पर एक चित्र प्रदर्शनी भी प्रस्तुत की। यह दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के अलावा और कौन जान सकता है कि जिस भूमि पर यह स्थापित है, यह वही भूमि है जहाँ इस विद्रोह ने जन्म लिया। |

| दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय दीक्षांत समारोह, 24 मार्च 2012 दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय ने इस वर्ष 24 मार्च 2012 को अपना 89वां दीक्षांत समारोह आयोजित किया। समारोह में छात्रों को पीएच.डी, डी.एम. आदि की उपाधियाँ प्रदान की गईं। कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि नवाचार और जनसूचना सलाहकार डा. सैम पित्रोदा थे। इस अवसर पर दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह, उप-कुलपति प्रो. विवेक सुनेजा, कुलसचिव सहित विश्वविद्यालय के सभी वरिष्ठ प्रशासनिक अधिकारी मौजूद थे। दीक्षांत समारोह का कार्यक्रम दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के मुख्य भवन वाइस रीगल लॉज में आयोजित किया गया। इस समारोह में लगभग 850 लोगों ने भाग लिया। समारोह में दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के 414 विद्यार्थियों को पीएच.डी, 12 को डी.एम. और 11 को अन्य उपाधियाँ प्रदान की गईं। छात्रों को 142 पदक और 52 पुरस्कार प्राप्त हुए। खास बात यह रही कि इनमें से ज्यादातर पदक छात्राओं ने हासिल किए। दीक्षांत समारोह के कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि श्री सैम पित्रोदा ने छात्रों को अपने जीवन में ज्ञान की संभावनाओं की खोज और सतत वृद्धि को अपना लक्ष्य बनाने की प्रेरणा दी। उन्होंने भारत में दूरसंचार के साधनों की कमी के बारे में अपने पुराने अनुभव बताते हुए कहा कि एक वक्त यहाँ अपने रिश्तेदारों से बात कर पाने के लिए टेलीफोन भी सहजता से उपलब्ध नहीं था। उस वक्त भारत में टेलीफोन एक दुर्लभ वस्तु था। तब उन्होंने देश में दूरसंचार क्रांति के बारे में सोचा। इसका परिणाम आज हमें देश भर में नौ करोड़/33.19 मिलियन तक पहुँच चुके टेलीफोन कनेक्शनों की संख्या के रूप में दिखाई देता है। डा. सैम पित्रोदा ने देश के सभी विश्वविद्यालयों, संस्थानों, शोध संस्थानों और पंचायतों को राष्ट्रीय ज्ञान-तंत्र से जोड़ने की बात रखी। उनका मानना है कि इससे समाज में सूचना का एक समान प्रसार और वितरण संभव हो पाएगा। अतः यह जरुरी है कि पूरे देश को समान सूचना-तंत्र में जोड़ा जाए। सबसे दिलचस्प यह था कि एक ओर जहाँ मुख्य अतिथि सूचना तकनीक पर अपने विचार रख रहे थे, वहीं इसी तकनीक की बदौलत दीक्षांत समारोह का प्रत्यक्ष प्रसारण छात्रों के परिवारजनों द्वारा देखा गया। इस बात को ध्यान में रखते हुए यदि शिक्षण संस्थानों को जोड़कर साझा ज्ञान-तंत्र बनाने का विचार मूर्त रूप लेता है तो यह बहुत ही रोचक होगा क्योंकि इससे भारतीय शिक्षा पद्धति के क्षेत्र में एक नवीन क्रांति का उदय होगा। |
| परम पवित्र, आदरणीय दलाई लामा, 22 मार्च 2012 22 मार्च 2012, को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के लिए खास दिन रहा, जहाँ 'जीवन में शिक्षा, मानसिकता और हृदय की नैतिकता' विषय पर संगोष्ठी आयोजित की गई। संगोष्ठी के मुख्य वक्ता और कार्यक्रम के मुख्य अतिथि थे परम पवित्र दलाई लामा। इस अवसर पर दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के माननीय कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह, उपकुलपति प्रो. विवेक सुनेजा, डीन ऑफ कॉलेज प्रो. सुधीश पचौरी, प्रो. उमेश रॉय निदेशक दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय दक्षिणी परिसर, डा. सविता दत्ता प्राचार्य मैत्रेयी कॉलेज, प्रो. एच.पी.सिंह डीन परीक्षा समेत कॉलेजों के प्राचार्य, शिक्षकगण, विश्वविद्यालय समिति के सदस्य व छात्र भी मौजूद रहे। विश्व भर में 'सौम्य सत्याग्रही' के नाम से विख्यात आदरणीय दलाई लामा ने 'जीवन में शिक्षा, मानसिकता और हृदय की नैतिकता' विषय पर अपना व्याख्यान दिया। कुलपति महोदय ने मुख्य अतिथि का स्वागत करते हुए कहा "हमारे जीवन में नैतिकता और उसकी शिक्षा बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण है। यह हमारे जीवन में कुछ नवीन करने की आधारशिला को तैयार करते हैं।" शिक्षा के सही अर्थ को समझाने का प्रयास करते हुए, उन्होंने इसे नवीन जीवन की आधारशिला माना है। इसके साथ ही शांति दूत दलाई लामा ने जीवन में नैतिकता को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में पढ़ाए जाने की बात कही। अपने व्याख्यान के दौरान उन्होंने जीवन में शिक्षा, नैतिकता, अहिंसा, सच्चाई, ईमानदारी और पारदर्शिता जैसे महत्वपूर्ण गुणों को अपनाने की बात कही। उन्होंने अपनी दूरदर्शिता से मनुष्य जीवन को सरल, सुखी और नैतिक रूप से समृद्ध बनाने की बात समझाई। धर्म गुरु लामा ने जीवन के हर पहलू पर चर्चा की। उन्होंने कहा कि समाज और व्यक्ति दोनों एक-दूसरे के पूरक हैं। प्रत्येक व्यक्ति समाज से जुड़कर परमार्थ के काम करता है। इसके साथ ही उन्होंने प्राणियों में परस्पर प्रेम भाव को बनाए रखने का संदेश दिया। आदरणीय दलाई लामा ने संगोष्ठी में बैठे कई जिज्ञासुओं की जिज्ञासाओं का समाधान भी किया। एक छात्र का प्रश्न था कि हमारे समाज की वास्तविक जरूरत क्या है? क्या हमें मृत हो चुके नैतिक मूल्यों को जीवित करना चाहिए या पुराने मूल्यों का संरक्षण या फिर हमें नए मूल्यों को खोजना होगा? इस सवाल के जवाब में आदरणीय दलाई लामा का कहना था कि हमें अपने समाज में जीवित नियमों को ही मानना होगा। मगर यह ध्यान रहे कि वे किसी भी धर्म या पंथ आदि से प्रेरित न हों। कोई भी धर्म आधारित नैतिक मूल्य अकसर दूसरों के अधिकारों का हनन करते हैं। संगोष्ठी के अंत में माननीय दलाई लामा ने सभी से अपील की कि वे अपने जीवन में शिक्षा के महत्व को समझें और सही मायनों में नैतिकता को अपनाएँ। |

| दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय सूचना केंद्र, उद्घाटन 3 मार्च 2012 3 मार्च का दिन दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के इतिहास में बेहद यादगार रहा। इस दिन विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति माननीय प्रो. दिनेश सिंह ने के नवीनतम विभाग, दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय सूचना केंद्र का उद्घाटन किया। सूचना केंद्र का उद्देश्य दाखिले की दुविधाओं से जूझते अभिभावकों और छात्रों को पर्याप्त सूचना प्रदान करना है। अक्सर छात्रों को पता नहीं होता कि अमुक पाठ्यक्रम के लिए किस कॉलेज में बात करें या अमुक कॉलेज में क्या-क्या पाठ्यक्रम पढ़ाएँ जाते हैं या नहीं। दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय का सूचना केंद्र सप्ताह के पाँचों दिन, सुबह 9 बजे से शाम 5 बजे तक कार्यरत रहता है। छात्र 011-27006900 नंबर के साथ ही 155215 पर बिना किसी एसटीडी और आईएसडी कोड को डॉयल किए भी सूचना केंद्र में संपर्क कर सकते हैं। साथ ही infocentre@du.ac.in पर ईमेल करके भी अपने सवाल पूछे जा सकते हैं। सूचना केंद्र के डिप्टी डीन डा. सतीश कुमार की देखरेख में यहाँ मौजूद सूचना कार्यकारी छात्रों की सभी जिज्ञासाओं का समाधान करते हैं। अधिकांश जिज्ञासा विभिन्न पाठ्यक्रमों में ली जाने वाली प्रवेश परीक्षा, कॉलेजों, परीक्षा के पैटर्न आदि को लेकर होती है। सूचना केंद्र में छात्रों को दी जाने वाली सारी सूचना का लेखा-जोखा रखा जाता है। यहाँ रोजाना 150-250 कॉल प्रति सूचना कार्यकारी द्वारा जवाब दिया जाता है। साथ ही ई-मेल से भी जिज्ञासु अपने जवाब पाकर संतुष्ट हो रहे हैं। सूचना केंद्र द्वारा दी जाने वाली जानकारी कॉलेजों और विश्वविद्यालय के विश्वस्त स्रोतों से प्राप्त की जाती है। पाठकों को यह जानकर हर्ष होगा कि व्यस्तता भरे कार्यक्रम के बावजूद सूचना केंद्र में कोई भी प्रश्न अनुत्तरित नहीं रहता है। |

| दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय वार्षिक पुष्प प्रदर्शनी, 2 मार्च 2012 दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की वार्षिक पुष्प प्रदर्शनी 2 मार्च को 'अंतरध्वनि' उत्सव के समानांतर ही विश्वविद्यालय के खेल परिसर में आयोजित की गई। पुष्प प्रदर्शनी का उद्घाटन दिल्ली की मुख्यमंत्री श्रीमति शीला दीक्षित ने किया। उद्घाटन समारोह में दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के विभिन्न कॉलेजों के एनसीसी छात्रों द्वारा मुख्यमंत्री को गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर देकर सम्मानित किया गया। इसके साथ ही छात्रों ने सुंदर परेड भी प्रस्तुत की। इस वर्ष पुष्प प्रदर्शनी में 30 से अधिक प्रजातियों के पौधे जिनमें आर्किड, गुलाब, कैक्टस, बोनसाई, गमले वाले पौधे, औषधीय पौधों, कट फ्लॉवर्स के साथ-साथ नियमित फूल-पौधों की विस्तृत श्रंखला प्रदर्शित की गई थी। इसके साथ ही बॉटनिकल क्विज, पुष्पों की रंगोली, वैवाहिक सजावट और विद्यालय व विश्वविद्यालय छात्रों के लिए चित्रकला संबंधी प्रतियोगिता भी आयोजित की गई थी। हर वर्ष कुलपति कप, प्लैटिनम जुबली कप व डायमंड जुबली कप सहित 62 अन्य कप पुरस्कारस्वरुप विभिन्न श्रेणियों में प्रदर्शित पौधों पर दिए जाते हैं। इस बार पुष्प प्रदर्शनी में कई प्रकार की संग्रह प्रदर्शनियाँ भी देखने को मिली। इनमें फूल व पत्तियों का संग्रह, शंख, सीपियों व सिक्कों का संग्रह, डाक टिकटों का संग्रह और कागज के फूलों का संग्रह उल्लेखनीय है। छात्र-छात्राओं द्वारा निर्मित हस्तशिल्प को भी प्रदर्शनी में रखा गया था। प्रदर्शनी का लक्ष्य "'धूम्रपान निषेध'" का संदेश देने के साथ मन को आनंदित व हर्षित करना भी था। इस बार दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कॉलेजों के सम्मिलित उत्सव अंतरध्वनि के अंतर्गत ही वार्षिक पुष्प प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन किया गया। जैसा कि नाम से जाहिर होता है 'अंतरध्वनि' इसके अर्थ है अंतर यानी कि मन की आवाज। दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कॉलेजों में हर वर्ष विभिन्न प्रकार के सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम किए जाते हैं। इस वर्ष विश्वविद्यालीय स्तर पर एक अद्वितीय और मंगलमय सांस्कृतिक उत्सव 'अंतरध्वनि' आयोजित किया गया। 'अंतरध्वनि' उत्सव दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के उत्तरी परिसर में 2 से 5 मार्च को हुआ। कार्यक्रम में दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के माननीय कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह, माननीय मुख्यमंत्री श्रीमति शीला दीक्षित जी सहित विश्वविद्यालय के गणमान्य अतिथि व बड़ी संख्या में छात्र उपस्थित थे। वार्षिक पुष्प प्रदर्शनी और अंतरध्वनि उत्सव को साथ में प्रस्तुत करने का यह प्रयास बेहद सफल रहा। इससे न सिर्फ आम लोगों को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की महत्वपूर्ण गतिविधियों के बारे में ज्ञान हुआ बल्कि छात्रों का भी उत्साहवर्धन हुआ। छात्रों में कार्यक्रम की विविध प्रतियोगिताओं व गतिविधियों में भाग लेने से लेकर उत्सव का आनंद लेने का उल्लास चरम पर था। वास्तव में 'अंतरध्वनि' एक ऐसा अवसर था, जब विश्वविद्यालय के सभी कॉलेजों और विभागों के छात्र एक साथ, एक ही स्थान पर उत्सव का आनंद ले पा रहे थे। यह एक ऐसा सुअवसर था जिसने सभी को बड़े से लेकर छोटे स्तर तके साथ मिलकर कुछ अनूठा करने का मौका दिया। 'अंतरध्वनि' में मनोरंजक कार्यक्रमों की एक लंबी श्रंखला भी प्रस्तुत की गई थी। इस कार्यक्रम में - - मोबाइल फोन द्वारा निर्मित फिल्मों का प्रदर्शन

इस उत्सव के कार्यक्रमों को नूतन और पुरातन का मिलन कहा जाए तो गलत नहीं होगा। कार्यक्रम में युवाओं के मनभावन नृत्यों जैसे पंजाब के गिद्दा-भाँगड़ा के साथ-साथ परंपरागत नृत्य के प्रशंसकों के लिए महाराष्ट्र के लावणी व कत्थक आदि शास्त्रीय नृत्य भी प्रस्तुत किए गए थे। इसके साथ ही भारतीय योग की विभिन्न मुद्राओं पर भी संगीतमय प्रस्तुति दी गई। उत्सव के दौरान विभिन्न प्रतियोगिताएँ भी आयोजित की गई थीं। इन प्रतियोगिताओं में रंगोली, वाद-विवाद और नुक्कड़ नाटक आदि शामिल थे। उत्सव के रुचिकर और सुंदर पक्ष को उभारने का काम यहाँ प्रदर्शनियों ने किया। विविध कलाकारों द्वारा बनाए गए चित्रों की प्रदर्शनी के साथ-साथ एक बेहद अनूठी प्रदर्शनी में यहाँ डाक टिकटों के संग्रह को भी प्रदर्शित किया गया। इसके साथ ही कई अन्य आकर्षणों के चलते भी यह कार्यक्रम बहुत ही मनभावन बन गया। इनमें 1857 विद्रोह पर प्रदर्शनी, फूड बाजार, दूरबीन और छात्रों की पुरस्कार प्राप्त चित्रों की प्रदर्शनी शामिल थे। 'अंतरध्वनि' उत्सव पुरातन और नूतन संस्कृतियों के मेल से अनुपम बन गया। भविष्य में भी नवीन प्रतिभाओं को उभारने के मंच के रूप में इन सांस्कृतिक उत्सवों का बेहतरीन उपयोग किया जा सकता है। |
| कुलपति दफ्तर में एक दिन की इंटर्न, 8 फरवरी 2012 छात्रों को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की कार्यप्रणाली से अवगत कराने के लिए एक दिन की इंटर्नशिप कार्यक्रम का आरंभ 8 फरवरी, 2012 को माननीय कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह द्वारा किया गया। बतौर प्रशिक्षु (इंटर्न) हिंदू कॉलेज के देवांग सिब्बल (बी.कॉम) और रामजस कॉलेज की वृंदा गुप्ता (सांख्यिकी ऑनर्स) को इंटर्नशिप का अवसर प्राप्त हुआ। छात्रों के लिए कुलपति कार्यालय में प्रशिक्षु बनकर काम को समझने और सीखने का अवसर बहुत ही उपयोगी साबित हुआ। प्रशिक्षुओं के काम की शुरुआत बिल्कुल गाँधीवादी तरीके से हुई। सबसे पहला काम प्रशिक्षुओं ने शौचालय की सफाई कर किया। इस दौरान अन्य छात्रों से भी प्रशिक्षुओं को बातचीत करने का मौका मिला। विश्वविद्यालय के बहुत से छात्रों ने प्रशिक्षण और चयन प्रक्रिया के बारे में जाना। प्रशिक्षुओं ने छात्रों की बहुत सी जिज्ञासाओं का भी समाधान किया। कुलपति और उनसे मिलने के लिए आने वाले आगुंतकों के बीच बेहतर संप्रेषक के रूप में प्रशिक्षुओं ने काम किया तथा कुलपति के अगले दिन के कार्यक्रम को भी तय करने की जिम्मेदारी को भी पूरा किया। |
| एक शाम टैगोर के नाम: 24 जनवरी 2012 नोबेल रत्न से सम्मानित, विश्वविख्यात कवि गुरुदेव रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर के जन्म का 150वां वर्ष होने के कारण यह वर्ष बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण है। इसी उपलक्ष्य में 24 जनवरी को बंगाल एसोसिएशन के सहयोग से 'एक शाम टैगोर के नाम' कार्यक्रम दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के सभागार में आयोजित किया गया। कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन विश्वविद्यालय के माननीय कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह ने किया। गुरुदेव रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर की काव्य-प्रतिभा को किसी परिचय की आवश्यकता नहीं है। वे एक कवि, गीतकार, दार्शनिक और लेखक भी थे। कार्यक्रम का प्रारंभ जयती घोष ने गुरुदेव की महान रचना गीतांजलि की व्याख्या सहित कविता पाठ से किया। गुरुदेव ने गीतांजलि की मूल कृति को बांग्ला भाषा में लिखा था, जिसे स्वयं उन्होंने अंग्रेजी भाषा में अनूदित और संगीतबद्ध भी किया। कार्यक्रम के दौरान गायकों द्वारा प्रस्तुत किए गए गुरुदेव के गीतों में उनके शब्दों और रवींद्र संगीत की गूँज सुनाई दी। इसके साथ ही कार्यक्रम को मनोरंजक बनाते हुए प्रणब कुमार चक्रवर्ती ने लघुकथा वर्णन, मिनौती चटर्जी और रुमा घोष ने सुमुधर कविताओं का पाठ किया। इस कार्यक्रम का मुख्य उद्देश्य गुरुदेव रवींद्रनाथ को श्रद्धांजली अर्पित करना था। |
| दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय और रक्षा अनुसंधान एवं विकास संस्थान में अकादमिक-अनुसंधान समझौता: 23 जनवरी 2012 23 जनवरी 2012 को दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय और रक्षा अनुसंधान एवं विकास संस्थान (डीआरडीओ) के बीच एक अकादमिक-अनुसंधान समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किया गया। यह समझौता दोनों संस्थानों के बीच में अकादमिक और अनुसंधान संबंधी गतिविधियों को बढ़ावा देने के उद्देश्य से किया गया। इस अवसर पर दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति माननीय प्रो. दिनेश सिंह, डा. विजय कुमार सारस्वत सचिव, श्री आर.के.सिन्हा दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय कुलसचिव, प्रो. मदनमोहन चतुर्वेदी सीआईसी निदेशक दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय, श्री ए.के.सिंह मानव संसाधन विभाग निदेशक (डीआरडीओ) सहित डीआरडीओ के अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्ति भी मौजूद थे। कार्यक्रम का शुभारंभ करते हुए रक्षा अनुसंधान एवं विकास संस्थान के वरिष्ठ वैज्ञानिक और मुख्य निरीक्षक, अनुंसधान और विकास (मानव संसाधन विभाग) के प्रमुख डा. भुजंगराव ने इसे दोनों ही संस्थानों की समृद्धि के लिए एक बेहतरीन अवसर बताया। उनके अनुसार यह समझौता भविष्य में दोनों ही संस्थानों से जुड़ने वालों को फलने-फूलने का अवसर प्रदान करेगा। दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के कुलपति प्रो. दिनेश सिंह ने इसे विश्वविद्यालय के इतिहास में एक महत्वपूर्ण दिन मानते हुए कहा कि "हमारे छात्र रक्षा अनुसंधान एवं विकास संस्थान में काम करने को लेकर काफी उत्साहित हैं।" हाल ही में दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में स्थापित किए गए कलस्टर इनोवेशन सेंटर (सीआईसी) के बारे में बात करते हुए कुलपति महोदय ने बताया, "हमारा यह विभाग नवीनतम शोधों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए तैयार किया गया है। यह हमारे लिए अत्यंत हर्ष का विषय है कि हमारे छात्र और डीआरडीओ के प्रतिभाशाली वैज्ञानिक मिलकर देश की सुरक्षा के लिए नवीनतम रक्षा तकनीक को ईजाद करने के लिए काम करेगें।" डीआरडीओ के सचिव डा. विजय कुमार सारस्वत ने अपने विचार प्रकट करते हुए कहा कि प्रो. डी.एस.कोठारी दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के पहले भौतिक वैज्ञानिक थे। प्रो. डी.एस.कोठारी के समय से रक्षा अनुसंधान एवं विकास संस्थान व दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय को इस समझौते की आवश्यकता महसूस हो रही थी। उनका मानना है कि इस समझौते के द्वारा दोनों ही संस्थानों की प्रतिभाओं को इससे लाभ मिलेगा। इसके द्वारा कई प्रतिभाओं को भौतिक विज्ञान, साइबर सुरक्षा, कूटलेखन, नैनो-प्रौद्योगिकी, एमईएमएस (सूक्ष्म विद्युत यांत्रिक प्रणाली) जैसे महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्रों में काम करने के अवसर प्राप्त होंगे। इस समझौते के दूरगामी लक्ष्य भी निर्धारित किए गए हैं ताकि दोनों ही पक्षों को इसका लाभ मिल सके। समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर करते हुए दोनों ही पक्षों ने यह आशा व्यक्त की कि दोनों संस्थान अपने-अपने स्तर पर गुणवत्तापूर्ण और उत्कृष्ट काम करेगें और एक जाँच समिति बनाकर समय-समय पर दोनों संस्थानों के काम का मूल्याकंन भी करेगें। |
In ninety years of its history, the University of Delhi celebrated its Foundation Day for the first time on 2 May 2012. A celebration is a remembrance and a coming together of the past and the present. Prof. Dinesh Singh said that the University was founded in 1922, but the correct sequence of dates had to be found in the historical records. Dr. Karan Singh, Member of the Rajya Sabha who is also an alumnus of the University was the Chief Guest on this auspicious occasion. Dr. Karan Singh took his M.A. and Ph.D from the University of Delhi with such high scores in his M.A. that it became a University record that remained unbroken for many years.
The programme commenced at the entrance to the Vice Chancellor’s office with the hoisting of the University flag by the Chief Guest. It was an evocative moment for the audience as a shower of rose petals wafted gently from the flag as it unfurled. The rich dark colour of the flag and the bright University emblem in its centre hold a significance for this renowned University whose history is linked to the builders of this country.
The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries proceeded to the Convention Hall where a simple programme marked the day with elegance and sobriety. With the lighting of the lamp and a welcome song by students of the Music department a beautiful ambience was created. The Vice Chancellor gave an inspiring speech welcoming the Chief Guest, introducing him as a statesperson and an artist. He spoke of the commitment that a University must have towards the growth of the nation. They share a goal and a vision, he said.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Karan Singh in his thoughtful address described the ‘four pillars’ of wisdom: Learn to Know, Learn to Do, Learn to Live Together, and Learn to Be. Elaborating on each, he spoke with deep feeling. He emphasized that today it is not the lack of manpower, resources or technology but lack of love and mutual relationships among people that bring obstacles in the path of the nation. The development of a person, society, country and the world in wider terms depends upon human understanding, he said. He cited the teachings in the ‘Upanishads’ and recommended several books which could lay the foundations of character.
Prof. Vivek Suneja, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University gave a vote of thanks, highlighting the concept of ‘four pillars’ in the education system in a University. He spoke of knowledge sharing and spreading the idea of compassion for one another.
With this celebration in 2012, it is expected that the Foundation Day would become an annual feature in the University’s calendar of events.

| National Level Workshop on Counseling Skills for the Street Educators - March 30, 2013 - April 3, 2013
The Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension to further strengthen teaching, research and extension activities with the University system organized Five-day National Level workshop from 30 March 2013 to 3 April 2013 at International Guest House University of Delhi for working NGO and Civil Societies on the issue of counseling skills for Street Educators. The workshop was sponsored by National Institute of Social Defense, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment Government of India. Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice-Chancellor, provided his best wishes to the Department for this National Level Workshop. This was the second Collaborative programme with NISD coordinated by Dr. Rajesh at National Level. The main objective was to enhance the counseling skills of street educators on the issue of health, education, psychological well-being and child rights. For this, participatory learning approach was adopted to facilitate and enhance the knowledge on counseling skills through role play, group activities, slide shows, field visit, group discussion and presentation. The participants were from Madhya parades, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and west Bengal. Total 40 participants from different states of India participated in the work shop. The issues in details covered were counseling skills for health related issues like, HIV/AIDS, Substance abuse, growth and development, reproductive health of adolescent, formal & non-formal educational, vocational guidance, psychological well-being and Rights of children. To facilitate the workshop the resource persons were invited form different organization like Delhi University, UNESCO, Plan India, National Minority Commission and Civil Societies working on street and working children. | Hackathon @ DU - April 6-7, 2013
The Planning Commission and the National Innovation Council are organising the first ever Hackathon on the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) on 6th – 7th April 2013.
The event was held at University of Delhi South Campus, simultaneously along with 10 more locations around India as well as through online participation, and prizes were awarded to the winners in each category. The event took place at University of Jammu, IIT Delhi, Delhi University, Aligarh Muslim University, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, TISS Mumbai, IIIT Hyderabad, IISc Bangalore, IIT Madras and IIM Shillong. Thousands of young creative designers, coders, film-makers along with policy and development enthusiasts has visualised and narrated the 12th Plan through infographics, short films, and support the initiatives proposed in the Plan by developing software applications.

| Edinburgh-Delhi U Lecture Series, On-line - April 3, 2013 3rd April 2013, Professor Roger Jeffery’s lecture on ‘Population: how much of a problem?’ opened a new way of learning at the ILLL, University of Delhi. The online lecture was viewed earlier by about 30 undergraduate students. Today, Prof. Jeffery was linked from Edinburgh to THE STUDIO at ILLL, and answered questions in an interactive mode. Prof. Jeffery has been a leading person in building the partnership between Edinburgh University and Delhi University.
Prof. Roger Jeffery’s interest in India has been reflective of both his intellectual and personal commitment. He has been engaged in a variety of research projects in India since 1972, including research in villages and small-towns of north India looking at how religious group membership and caste interrelate with childbearing, fertility behaviour, gender politics and schooling. Since 2005 Prof Jeffery has been involved in a series of projects on contemporary issues in public health in India and elsewhere. His most recent publication includes Degrees without Freedom: Education, Masculinities and Unemployment in north India. |

| Report: “The Legacy Of Srinivasa Ramanujan” - An International Conference, University of Delhi - December 17-22, 2012 The Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh declared the year 2012 as the “National Mathematics Year” and the date December 22, being the birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan has been declared as the National Mathematics Day. At the culmination of the yearlong celebrations, an international conference titled “The Legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan” was organized by University of Delhi. This international conference was a six-day programme that held from 17 December to 22 December, 2012 at the University of Delhi.
The conference was open for all the teachers, students, researchers from India as well as abroad. The conference was widely publicized. Every information related to the conference was made available on the Official website of University of Delhi as well as the official website of the conference. As a result, an overwhelming response was received from all parts of the world. Around 525 participants were registered from India as well as abroad.Every registered participant was provided with a kit on the inaugural day of the conference.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. M. M. Pallam Raju, Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India on 17 December, 2012. The Inaugural function was held in the majestic Convention Hall of the Viceregal Lodge, University of Delhi.
The academic programme of the conference consisted of 2 Public Lectures of 1 hour duration each, 18 plenary talks of 50 minutes duration each, 22 sectional talks of 40 minutes duration each, 20 contributed talks of 15 minutes duration each and 1 SASTRA award lecture of 1 hour duration. Apart from the academic events, the conference had two cultural evenings, one being a Kathak recital by Ms. Rachana Yadav and the other being a dance drama “Parikalpana” by Loreto Public School. The year 2012 has been declared as the National Mathematics Year as a tribute to the great mathematical legend Srinivasa Ramanujan on the occasion of his 125th anniversary. In his first university function after assuming charge, at the outset, the minister lauded the efforts of Delhi University in maintaining its heritage building so well. | Ten-Day National Level Research Methodology Workshop Report - December 2, 2012 to December 11, 2012 The academic reforms initiated by Professor Dinesh Singh the dynamic Vice- chancellor of University of Delhi since two years motivated the Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension to further strengthen teaching, research and extension activities with the University-system. To focus on interdisciplinary researches, Dr. Rajesh, Head and Course director organized Ten days National Level workshop sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The objective of the workshop was to build the capacities of Ph. D scholars. The Department received 150 applications out of them 35 were selected for the workshop. The participants represented University of Maharashtra, Kazakhstan, Tamil Nadu, Madhaya Paradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Pondichery, West Bengal, Meghalaya, and National capital of India.
The input provided were on qualitative and quantitative research, mainly on the research design, hypothesis, formulation of research problems, sampling, types of sampling, correlation and regression, SPSS Theory and practical, writing research report or thesis and field visit were organized in Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), and Indian Adult Education Association.
Professor Grieshwar Mishra Dean Research inaugurated the workshop. Dr Rajesh, Head and Course Director provided the welcome address. The workshop included participatory session group work and individual presentation to clarify the concept of research methodology. Professor Anand Prakash, Dean, International Relations, Chaired the valedictory session. Research methodology workshop is important in view of the proposed 4 year undergraduate course in which research will be important area of the intervention. Mr. Pramod Kumar and Mr. Biresh Pachisia both Research Scholars were involved in facilitating the workshop along with other research scholars of the department. The participants highly appreciated the workshop and requested to undertake follow-up session in future. The students of the Department had interaction with Prof. Soren Ehlers on ‘International Perspective of Lifelong learning’. The objective of the program was to interact with the students and faculty to facilitate about the future perspective of lifelong learning and university exchange programme like available fellowship for undergraduate, Post graduate and Ph.D. for Indian University students. The agenda was to involve college students in the community development focusing marginalized and vulnerable sections of the society. Student community interaction was organized to explore the field-work and community development activities in Sangam Vihar near Biodiversity park, Jharoda of Delhi. We were glad to have Dr. Harish Trivedi, former Professor of English, currently Advisor on Academic Publications, as the speaker for the second Popular Lecture for the year with his talk titled “Reading Indian Literature: Reading Ourselves” on 25th September, 2012. Prof. Dinesh Singh, “Infinity and the Art of Counting” Mathematics, a subject that generates curiosity in the hearts of many and a sensation of fear of the unknown in some, was put to rest when Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi, and a renowned Mathematician, spoke on the subject “Infinity and the Art of Counting” at the Popular Lecture series at its first lecture for the year 2012-13, on 16th August, 2012 at the Conference Centre, University of Delhi. Everyone from the University, specially students, were invited to attend the lecture. He connected ‘Infinity’ to God and elaborated how this God can be thought to be Greater than another God i.e. an Infinite set which can be proved to be greater than another Infinite set keeping in mind the concepts of Set Theory propounded by the great German mathematician Georg Ferdinand Ludwig Philipp Cantor, best known as the inventor of Set Theory, which has become a fundamental theory in mathematics in the modern world due to its many applications. Throwing light into Cantor’s work, Prof. Singh emphasized the importance of one-to-one correspondence between the members of two sets and defined infinite and well-ordered sets explaining how Cantor proved that the Real numbers are"more numerous" than the Natural numbers. Further, the major concepts of Continuum hypothesis and Paradoxes of Set Theory was beautifully presented and explained through fascinating examples that illustrated Prof. Dinesh Singh’s immense knowledge of the subject. Infact, Cantor's method of proof of the theorem implies the existence of “infinity of infinities" thus making the topic of the lecture justifiable as aparadox that Infinity could be made countable. With his elegance and exquisite communication style Prof. Singh articulated the intricacies of the subject making it comprehendible for even the lay person who absorbed every single detail. Students from maths and non-mathethmatics background were totally engrossed in the lecture and notes were rapidly jotted down. | Equal Opportunity Cell: Orientation Programme - August 7, 2012 To inform students with disabilities of facilities and services available to them at the University of Delhi, the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) held its orientation programme on 7 Aug 2012 in the Conference Centre. Nearly four hundred students attended the event and were greeted by a beautiful display of assistive devices and handicrafts. A panel of specialists and University administrators came forward to interact with the students. This panel comprised of Prof Dinesh Singh( Vice Chancellor, Delhi University),Prof Usha Rao(Coordinator, EOC), Dr. Bipin Tiwari (O.S.D, EOC), Mr. P.K. Pincha (Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities), Mr. Dipendra Manocha (Director, Saksham Trust) , Mr. Ashok Arora (Advocate , Supreme Court) and Ms Shivani (Director, Accessibility India) It was an auspicious start with the lamp lightening ceremony and saraswati vandana which was followed by a power point presentation on EOC, which showcased all the services offered and also gave the procedure for availing the facilities. Thereafter, Honorable Chief Guest, Prof. Dinesh Singh, addressed the students and announced many amenities such as a feeder bus service, better accommodation facilities, funding of metro travel etc to support the disabled students in their day to day activities. Touched by the over-whelming response by our specially-abled students, Vice-Chancellor met many of them personally to understand their problems and promised to attend to them. Furthermore, Mr. Dipendra threw light on the availability and use of assistive devices. The disabled students were overjoyed to know that there will be a provision for some differently-abled students to travel in the Gyanodaya express train of Delhi U. There was an open house discussion coordinated by Dr. Bipin Tiwari where everyone could voice the concerns in their respective colleges. | DU Celebrates Foundation Day - May 2, 2012 In ninety years of its history, the University of Delhi celebrated its Foundation Day for the first time on 2 May 2012. A celebration is a remembrance and a coming together of the past and the present. Prof. Dinesh Singh said that the University was founded in 1922, but the correct sequence of dates had to be found in the historical records. Dr. Karan Singh, Member of the Rajya Sabha who is also an alumnus of the University was the Chief Guest on this auspicious occasion. Dr. Karan Singh took his M.A. and Ph.D from the University of Delhi with such high scores in his M.A. that it became a University record that remained unbroken for many years. The programme commenced at the entrance to the Vice Chancellor's office with the hoisting of the University flag by the Chief Guest. It was an evocative moment for the audience as a shower of rose petals wafted gently from the flag as it unfurled. The rich dark colour of the flag and the bright University emblem in its centre hold a significance for this renowned University whose history is linked to the builders of this country. The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor and other dignitaries proceeded to the Convention Hall where a simple programme marked the day with elegance and sobriety. With the lighting of the lamp and a welcome song by students of the Music department a beautiful ambience was created. The Vice Chancellor gave an inspiring speech welcoming the Chief Guest, introducing him as a statesperson and an artist. He spoke of the commitment that a University must have towards the growth of the nation. They share a goal and a vision, he said. The Chief Guest, Dr. Karan Singh in his thoughtful address described the 'four pillars' of wisdom: Learn to Know, Learn to Do, Learn to Live Together, and Learn to Be. Elaborating on each, he spoke with deep feeling. He emphasized that today it is not the lack of manpower, resources or technology but lack of love and mutual relationships among people that bring obstacles in the path of the nation. The development of a person, society, country and the world in wider terms depends upon human understanding, he said. He cited the teachings in the 'Upanishads' and recommended several books which could lay the foundations of character. Prof. Vivek Suneja, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University gave a vote of thanks, highlighting the concept of 'four pillars' in the education system in a University. He spoke of knowledge sharing and spreading the idea of compassion for one another. | Admiral Nirmal Verma meets DU's NCC Students - March 27, 2012 On 27 March, the NCC cadets of the University of Delhi presented a Guard of Honour to Admiral Nirmal Verma, Chief of the Indian Navy. It was for the first time that an NCC event had been given such prominence in the university campus. NCC cadets from more than twenty colleges were drawn from Air, Naval and Army wings. Smartly turned out and marching to the Naval band, they saluted the Chief Guest and proceeded on a designated route through the campus. They returned to witness a cultural programme which was focused on fitness and discipline. It included yoga exercises, street play, ambush attack, first aid by students of different colleges. Alongside, a photographic exhibition on "The Uprising: 1857" captured a military past and the University students were reminded of the sacrifice made by our national leaders who had been wrongly dubbed as rebels. Moreover, today the university stands on the same ground where significant events of 1857 happened. Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, Prof. Dinesh Singh, reminded everyone about the 1857 Kranti and the legacy of commitment to nation building. Taking the philosophy further, Admiral Nirmal Verma spoke about inculcation of leadership qualities in students through NCC and other disciplines. He said that NCC is the largest forum for students in uniform and it creates a lasting impact. | 89th Annual Convocation - March 24, 2012 The University of Delhi held its Eighty-Ninth Annual Convocation for conferment of PhD and other degrees to the successful candidates of the current academic year. A grand function was convened on Saturday the 24th March, 2012 in the Convention Hall, Viceregal Lodge, University of Delhi. Dr. Sam Pitroda, Advisor, Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations was the Chief Guest at this Convocation. Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi, presided over the function and conferred awards in all disciplines to those present and in absentia which included 414 Ph.D. degrees, 12 D.M. degrees and 11 M.Ch. degrees. He delivered an inspiring speech in which he welcomed and introduced the Chief Guest highlighting the achievements and contributions of Mr. Pitroda in the development of the nation. The honourable Chief Guest gave 142 medals and 52 prizes to the meritorious students for the year. In the Convocation Address delivered by Dr. Sam Pitroda he urged the young graduates to explore their potential for knowledge creation and asked them to aim for 'inclusive' participation in their endeavours. He also emphasized the need to identify the 'power of the self' and strengthen it, in order to remain steadfast and committed in the pursuit of one's dreams. Dr. Pitroda narrated his journey as a young man from a small village in Odisha to the metropolis of Chicago and how, during his visit to India in subsequent years, he was not able to connect with the US due to the paucity of telephone links in the eighties. It was at that time that he decided to help shape India's telecom revolution, which brought about an augmentation in the number of telecom connections from two million in mid-eighties to 900 million at present. The Chief Guest also shared his current mission of connecting universities, research institutes, schools and panchayats in India though the National Knowledge Network which he believes is an essential tool to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. It was an evocative moment to see the Convocation Procession with all the dignitaries and the University officials and faculty. On this solemn occasion, students stand reminded of the true meaning of education and of the ideal of serving the nation. Excitingly, provision for live webcast was made for this Convocation, for the parents and guardians of the degrees recipients and the public. | University Information Centre - March 3, 2012 It was a special day when on March 3, 2012 the Vice Chancellor inaugurated a new operational department named the University Information Centre (UIC). This Centre aims at satisfying queries from students and their guardians on all matters related to the university and functions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm (Monday to Friday). This much needed service hopes to provide a single link to the public with information on this vast university. This Centre is located at the University's North Campus. The following telephone lines 011-27006900 and 155215 (without any code) have been dedicated for the service. Queries will also be answered through e-mails addressed to infocentre@du.ac.in. At present several Information Executives are managing this Centre at any given time under the guidance of Deputy Dean in-charge of UIC, Dr. Satish Kumar, and are responsible for providing satisfactory responses to queries. Thus far most of the queries relate to entrance exams, colleges, courses and examinations although some calls have also been received communicating grievances, which, the UIC team have tried to handle with dexterity. On an average, a hundred calls are received and attended to by each member of the team. Information generated by them is obtained from colleges and from University sources. Queries are also received from university offices. It is a pleasure to note that despite the volume of work, no single query remains pending at UIC. | DU Flower Show and 'Antardhvani' Chief Minister Mrs Sheila Dikshit Inaugurates - March 2-5, 2012 - We are happy to report that for the first time in its history, the University of Delhi organized an Annual Cultural Festival "Antardhvani 2012" along with the colorful Flower Show at its North Campus from 2-5 March. Mrs. Shiela Dikshit , the Chief Minister of Delhi inaugurated the event. The ceremony commenced with a Guard of Honor for the Chief Guest, Mrs Dikshit, by the NCC cadets of different colleges of the University, followed by a march-past encircling the University Stadium i.e. the venue of the festival. Subsequently, the Chief Guest inaugurated the Flower Show - a much-awaited annual affair of the university wherein prize-winning entries from various colleges and rare exhibits from the Presidents Estate were displayed. Special attraction of this year's (54th) Flower Show were eye-catching species of Cacti, Orchids, Succulents, Herbal Plants, Botanical quiz, cut flowers as well as the regular sale of flowers, plants and gardening material. The best outputs of 'On-the-Spot Painting Competition' for school students, held at the Arts Faculty lawn on 24-25 February, were displayed and also made available for purchase. A vibrant Cultural Programme was organized to mark the beginning of an event which was to continue for three days. The participation at the Cultural Festival was open to all the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Delhi University. The details of the programme and the rules and regulations of participation were made available at the university's website www.du.ac.in/fest. Participants could apply online to reduce the processing time. Over 2500 students applied for various competitive events out of which 900 were shortlisted in the preliminary round. The three days witnessed stimulating, enjoyable and varied events such as Popular songs, Instrumental music, Classical dances, Choreography, Popular bands, Street play and Street dance, Ghazal singing, Film making using cell phone cameras, Photography and Painting Competition, Debates and Creative writing. Adding to the knowledge of students were a photograph exhibition titled "1857: The Uprising" and a Philately Exhibition and a telescope to see the Solar flares and Sun Spots. The added attraction to the festival was the food street at subsidized rates and the souvenir corner where T‐shirts, caps, personalized mugs etc. were on sale. | Student Internship Programme, February 8, 2012 An internship programme has been recently introduced by the University of Delhi for its undergraduate and postgraduate students. This kind of initiative has been taken by the university for the first time in its history. Interns from different colleges and departments of the university will be associated with the Vice Chancellor's office for a day during which they will participate in activities such as: - Understanding the functioning and day-to-day engagements of the Vice Chancellor's office;
- Assisting the Vice Chancellor and his team members in managing their daily affairs such as noting appointments, making phone calls, receiving and recording letters, taking notes, drafting letters, maintaining files etc.;
- Interacting with visitors by assisting and ushering them within the complex;
- Exploring and understanding the history of the Vice Chancellor's office complex and, upon request, narrating it to the visitors.
The intern's presence will be suitably acknowledged by the Vice Chancellor's office. This year two students, Devaang Sibal (Hindu College) and Vrinda Gupta (Ramjas College) undertook the internship programme. The schedule for this day started from 8:30 a.m. Their engagements included helping the Vice Chancellor and his team in their everyday work. The Vice Chancellor spoke about the dignity of labour and he, along with the interns, helped to clean the premises. Attending to visitors at the central reception and answering their queries, receiving phone calls, drafting the VC's mails and preparing his itinerary for a couple of days were some of their duties. The interns were delighted with their online web chat with several DU students who were intending to apply for the programme. They patiently handled queries and said it was a mere coincidence that both of them were from the north campus. The selection of interns was on a random basis they told the listeners. When asked about their experience, the students expressed deep satisfaction at what they had accomplished. A certificate was given by the Vice Chancellor's office for the work they had undertaken during their memorable day. Although the internship programme allows just a single day to the selected students, it is a matter of great privilege to be a part of the Vice Chancellor's office and to serve the University. | Celebrating 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev - January 24, 2012 To mark the 150th birth anniversary of the Noble Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore, the University of Delhi organized a function titled "An Evening with Tagore" to revisit the writings of the great litterateur and relate the political climate of the times to incidents of his personal life. It was an occasion to reflect on the individuals and the circumstances which influenced Tagore. This programme was held at the University Convention Hall in collaboration with the Bengal Association. It was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, who in his address referred to the affinity and good will that Tagore shared with the Father of the Nation whom Tagore respectfully named the 'Mahatma'. Jayati Ghosh's presentation titled the 'Making of Gitanjali' was a combination of songs and narration. It was followed by Pranab Kumar Chakraborty, who read a well-known short story by Tagore. Minoti Chatterjee and Ruma Ghosh recited invigorating and heart-rending poetry of Tagore that evoked nostalgic moments. In conclusion, Ashish Ghosh staged a graceful performance by way of a dramatic enactment named 'Mukti' depicting the liberation of human spirit. | MoU Between DRDO And DU - January 23, 2012 A Memorandum of Understanding between The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of the Govt of India and the University of Delhi was signed on 23 January 2012 for joint collaboration on Enhanced Academic Interaction and Research & Development. A galaxy of academicians and top scientists including the Director of Human Resources Development, Directors of Delhi based laboratories of DRDO, the Vice Chancellor, Director of the Cluster Innovation Centre and the Registrar of the University of Delhi were present at the ceremony to mark this historic moment. Welcoming the gathering, Dr Bhujanga Rao, distinguished scientist and Chief Controller R&D (HR), DRDO stated that coming together of these two great organizations will provide synergy and the MOU will offer excellent opportunities for all the stakeholders. During a brief ceremony Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi spoke of the eagerness of university students to collaborate with the scientists. He described the day as a Red Letter one in the history of the University as DRDO was a place where the country's best minds worked to develop technologies to defend the country. Further, he emphasized the importance of this collaboration by stating that it is imperative for Universities to serve the country and this MoU is a step in that direction. Mentioning the University's newly set-up "Cluster Innovation Centre" he described it as a programme that is changing the learning methods of students and the style of pedagogy. In his address, Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat highlighted the longstanding relationship of mutual collaboration that has existed between DU and DRDO right from the days of Prof. D.S. Kothari, an eminent physicist from the University of Delhi. He congratulated the gathering and described the MoU as a step in formalizing the collaborative efforts between the two great institutions. Emphasizing the role of academic institutions in the development of newer technologies, especially in areas where the maturity level of technologies was low (0-3 on a 10 point scale), he briefly discussed the ladder approach that was evolved and followed in DRDO for developing new products. He set the roadmap by identifying certain key areas of collaboration such as laser physics, cyber security, cryptography, nanotechnology, MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems), and sensors for specific applications. The MoU was formally signed by Dr. V. K. Saraswat, Secretary, DRDO and Prof. Dinesh Singh, Vice Chancellor. According to the terms of the agreement, the partners shall actively initiate a process to identify core technology research areas of mutual interest and work to establish a Centre of Excellence at the university. A Monitoring and Assessment Committee has been constituted to work on the objectives defined.
