ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Russian Section of the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies is one of the oldest disciplines of University of Delhi. The teaching of Russian in Delhi was started at Department of Russian in 1946. The Department of Russian was established on 02.10.1946 on the initiative of the First Prime Minister of Independent India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The founder Head of this Department was Mr. V. Shibayev. With introduction of courses in other languages the name of the department was changed to Department of Modern European Languages. On 29.12.1987 the Department of Modern European Languages was bifurcated and the Department of Slavic Studies came into existence. The Department of Slavic Studies was later renamed as Department of Slavonic & Finno-Ugrian Studies.

Admissions

ELIGIBILITY & PROCEDURE for:-

Certificate courses & Bulgarian Intensive Advanced Diploma:


A) The eligibility requirements for admission to the various part-time courses in the Department shall be that a candidate should have passed 1. Senior Secondary School Certificate examination or 2.Graduation or 3. Post-graduation with minimum 55% marks in the aggregate.
B) In order to be considered in all categories, the candidate must submit all the copies of the certificates / degrees / mark-sheets of the examination he / she has passed. Applications in the prescribed form attached with Bulletin of Information should be accompanied with:
1. An attested copy of the Degree / Certificate / Mark sheets etc. showing that the minimum requirements for admission are fulfilled; An attested copy of class X / SSC certificate showing the date of birth of the candidate;
2. An attested copy of mark-sheet of the relevant Certificate / Diploma Examination in case of candidates seeking admission to Diploma / Advanced Diploma course;
3. One attested copy of recent passport size photo must be affixed on the form and one plain (unattested) photo to be attached for Identity Card;
4. The Original Certificates must be produced for verification at the time of admission.
Applications for admission to all courses of the Department should be submitted in the office on or before the last date prescribed by the Department. The names of the selected candidates will be notified after verification on the Notice Board of the Department.

DIPLOMA / ADVANCED DIPLOMA COURSES


The minimum qualification required for all Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses is Certificate / Diploma or equivalent in that language respectively. (Candidates who have obtained Certificate / Diploma or an equivalent one or more years earlier than the year of seeking admission to Diploma / Advanced Diploma, will be required to pass an Admission Test to be conducted by the Department.)

INTENSIVE ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN RUSSIAN


10+2 (Not less than 55% marks)
Mode of Admission: Through Aptitude Test and Interview
Nature of Entrance Test for Intensive (full time) Advanced Diploma in Russian: The test will be aimed at ascertaining the aptitude of candidates for learning the language and literature as well as knowledge of culture and history of the Russian Federation. The Entrance Test will be held on 8th July at the Department.

M.A. IN RUSSIAN STUDIES


B.A. in Russian Language and Literature / Graduation in any other subject plus
3-year Advanced Diploma in Russian / One-year Intensive Advanced Diploma in Russian of the University of Delhi or equivalent thereto.
Through Entrance Test and Interview

FOR M.PHIL IN BULGARIAN


Good academic record with a First or High Second Class (equivalent Grade) Master’s degree or an equivalent degree of foreign University in the subject concerned.
M.A. with at least 55% marks or equivalent in Linguistics, all languages or Social Sciences with reference to Area Studies and with at least 55% marks in two-year course Intensive (Full-Time) Advance Diploma in Bulgarian or with at least 60% marks in Advanced Diploma (part-time) course in Bulgarian.
M.A. in Russian with at least 55% marks and Bulgarian as optional subject.
All candidates shall have to pass an Entrance Exam (Written and Oral)

M.PHIL IN RUSSIAN


The minimum eligibility conditions for admission to the M-Phil (Russian) Course in the Department shall be as follows: good academic record with a first or high second class (equivalent Grade) Master’s degree or an equivalent degree of foreign University in Russian.
There will also be an entrance examination (Written & Oral).

Ph.D


Candidates can be registered for Ph. D in Russian Language and literature as well other languages and literatures subject to availability of teachers.
Those interested in registering for a Ph. D program should contact Office of the Dean, Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Humanities, Arts Faculty, 1st Floor South Campus, New Delhi 110021 for details regarding Information Bulletin, registration procedure, application form etc.
Applications should be submitted to the Head of the Department. After proper scrutiny of the requisite qualification etc., the Head of the Department, in consultation with the members of the Department Research Committee, may recommend the application and the name of the Supervisor who will guide the applicant in the research work. On such recommendation, the Board of Research Studies (Humanities) may, if it deems fit, approve the application.
Admission to Ph. D program is regulated through the Office of the Chairman, Board of Research Studies FASSH, Arts Faculty, South Campus. In every case, the Department has disciplinary and general control over the research student and his work.
Confirmation of Admission: All admissions will be provisional and subject to the confirmation by the Admission Committee of the University of Delhi.

Reservation of seats for Scheduled Caste / Tribe, OBC candidates for admission will be given as per University rules subject to production of certificates along with the application form for admission.
