Ph.D. Botany

With effect from the year 2017, the Department is conducting a joint entrance examination for M.Phil and Ph.D. The selection process involves an objective type written examination after which shortlisted candidates appear for an interview. After admission students are required to take both the coursework and dissertation to be eligible for award of degree. A combined coursework for M. Phil and Ph.D. programs is offered to the admitted students.

Duration of the course work: The coursework is for 1 semester and student is required to earn 12 credits through examination held at the end of semester. The dissertation mainly consists of research work, which is assigned by the supervisor and advisory committee.

Duration of Ph.D: As per the Ordinance VI, the time limits (inclusive of the coursework) for finishing the Ph.D. course is 6 years.

Grading System: The Ph.D. student has to earn 12 credits by appearing through a written examination based on the coursework. Student is also required to submit a thesis based on the original research work, which is reviewed by external examiners. On the basis of comments the thesis may either be rejected, accepted after modifications or accepted as such. This is followed by an open Viva-voce examination by an external examiner. Additionally, performance of the student is continuously monitored through regular work presentations and interactions with the supervisor and members of advisory committee.
