Dr. Sabata reiterated the importance of three principles of environment protection: carbon footprints, consciousness, and cleanliness. He was very impressed with the upkeep of the college and said that the college can serve as a model for others. He also emphasized that the students are the future and they should be sensitized to various aspects of environmental care.
Handmade Papermaking is a traditional industry of India. At present, it uses only cellulose-rich materials such as cotton rags, waste paper, hosiery waste etc. This could easily be extended to the use of biomass materials and agricultural residues. Many industries such as sugar industry and rice mills produce large amounts of bagasse and rice husk as waste. It is indicated that these bio-based wastes can be utilized innovatively for handmade paper. The project aimed to utilize commonly growing weeds such as Lantana, Parthenium, Eichornia and agricultural waste for making paper. The other objective of the project was to impart training to students for paper making. Since the laboratory is now established, the college can offer training in handmade paper making to students and other members of society. The Principal of the college, Dr. Aslam Parvaiz conveyed his commitment to ensure that the initiative taken by the innovation group is followed up.
