In view of the Holi festival on 21st March, 2019, the Proctor’s office of University of Delhi convened a meeting with the Delhi Police officials, DTC officials, Delhi Metro officials and the Hostel, Department and College authorities regarding the steps to be taken to prevent Holi hooliganism on 12th March, 2019 at 03:00 p.m. in the Conference Centre. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Neeta Sehgal, Proctor, University of Delhi and co-chaired by Prof. Shyama Rath, Foreign Students’ Advisor (FSA), University of Delhi. The Proctor apprised the participants that strict possible disciplinary action shall be taken to curb any act of hooliganism and disturbance during Holi under the provision of University Ordinances, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place Act-2013. This is to ensure a sense of safety and security so that the sentiment and dignity of any person is not hurt during the Holi festival. The Proctor made the request to these authorities to increase the vigil at the gates of their respective premises and stop entries of unauthorized persons inside the campus. In case of any problem, the authority may contact the Proctor’s office, and Delhi Police Helpline Numbers given in the Holi Posters sent to all the College, Department and Hostel authorities.
The SHO, Maurice Nagar Police Station apprised the participants about the initiative taken by the Delhi Police to prevent the hooliganism by students during the holi festival. He underlined the importance of the Himmat App on Mobile phones for preventing any such incidents against women students. The FSA made the participants conscious about the possible incidents of hooliganism against the foreign students. The law enforcement and security agencies along with DMRC and DTC have also assured full co-operation and the University will work in complete coordination with all these bodies and agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful Holi.
