The University of Delhi observed Surgical Strike Day on September 29, 2018. Talk by Senior Retired Army Officers and Defence Experts was organised for students, including NSS volunteers and NCC Cadets in the Conference Centre, North Campus. Major General P. K. Saighal (Retd.) and Major General Dilawar Singh (Retd.) were the Guests of Honour. The talk was also attended by the Registrar and Proctor, University of Delhi.
Major General PK Saighal (Retd.) strongly believed that the Surgical Strike by Indian Army was different from other countries as the armed forces crossed the Line of Control for the longest duration as well as the area covered was also the largest stretch with least causalities. He also explained the importance of Surgical Strike and its need.
Major General Dilawar Singh (Retd.) expressed that the “Parakram Parv” should be considered as a mark of nation building and also felt that it was a great day for the pride of the country. India had to take decision to carry out surgical strike not out of choice, not out of happiness, not even out of feeling of revenge but out of feeling of compulsion.
Short film on the valour and courage of the armed forces was shown to the students. Letters, postcards, poems written by the NCC/NSS students were displayed. All present took a pledge in the support for the armed forces.
The NSS and NCC Units in the Colleges of the University also organised Lectures, Motivational Talks by Army Personnel. They also prepared posters, wrote letters, postcards, poems etc. showcasing their respect and gratitude for the Soldiers. Documentary, videos on Surgical Strike, Service videos on Army, Navy and Air force, Patriotic videos on Gallantry Award Winners were shown to the students, Faculty and Staff.
During the ‘Parakram Parv’, the volunteers of NCC and NSS participated in the programme organized at India Gate on 28th and 29th September, 2018.
